Specialized dog training Classes

The Dog Den

Scrappers

Does your dog bark and lunge at people or dogs when you are out of a walk? Do you have to put your dog in another room every time someone comes to visit? Is your dog uncontrollable when he gets excited, aroused or anxious? Then this is the class for you! This class is specialized class for reactive dogs that may have aggression issues. The purpose of this class is to help owners to manage their dogs in difficult or challenging situations. Control Unleashed techniques and emergency commands will be used in this class. Our instructors will help steer you in the right direction for the management of your dog.

This 9 week class includes a 30 minute owner/instructor progress evaluation halfway through the class where we will discuss areas of improvement, answer questions, and watch actual video footage from the class so that we can point out small behavioral cues that can go unnoticed when you are handling your dog.

This class is limited to 6 dogs.
The cost is $225 for the 9 week class.

Dogs from 6 months to adult, copy of vaccination records.

OUTDOOR SESSION:  This 6 week session is for graduates of our 9 week class.  It will build on the fundamentals acquired in the Scrappers Class and put them into practice in an outdoor setting.
Cost: $120

Because of the limited size of this class, it fills up quickly.  Please contact us if you are interested and we will be happy to put you on a wait list.  When we have enough interest, we will form another class.  In the meantime, we also offer private lessons and behavior consults with our highly skilled behavior experts.

TOTAL CONTROL UNLEASHED CLASS

Is your dog - Easily distracted? Unable to greet other dogs or people in a calm manner?  Unable to control their impulses when excited? Unable to be quiet and relaxed in their crate in a class or trial environment? Unable to listen to you around other dogs?  Unable to work off-leash around other dogs?  Our Total Control Unleashed Class covers techniques that will help to teach your dog "focused attention" and impulse control (both on- and off- leash,) so that they become more reliable and manageable in distracting or stimulating situations.

This class is based on the book Control Unleashed: Creating a Focused and Confident Dog written by Leslie McDevitt. You are not required to buy or read the book prior to class, but we do invite you to do so in order to get more out of your class experience!

***Total Control Unleashed Class is appropriate for dogs that are dog-friendly and will be comfortable with being off-leash around other dogs (and comfortable with other dogs possibly approaching them.)  If your dog has a history of reactivity/aggression around other dogs, please see information for our Scrappers Class, and you may also consider contacting the Dog Den behavior team for a one-on-one private training session before you enroll for a group training class.

Dogs from 6 months to adult, copy of vaccination records.  Class meets once a week for 8 weeks and is approx. 1 hour long.
Cost: $180.00.

Because this class will include off-leash work, we ask that children coming to class be over the age of 14.

CONTROL UNLEASHED WORKSHOPS

What's Your Trigger? TCU Workshop
"My dog goes nuts when I bring the vacuum out!" "My pup is always barking at the neighbor kids riding their bikes." Does this sound familiar? Dogs have many different "triggers," which are the things that may send your dog into an unfocused, very distracted state of mind. In this workshop, we will be working with many common triggers (bicycles, people wearing strange things, tennis balls, etc.) and we encourage you to bring along any items that are triggers for your particular dog. As we expose the dogs to these items, we will be practicing focus work and working on threshold distances to help your dog work through their excitement and learn to focus on you instead.

Outdoor TCU Workshop
This workshop is a great opportunity to practice using your Control Unleashed skills (Look at That, Whiplash Turns, Doggie Zen, etc.) when your dog is exposed to all of the distractions that the outdoors provides!  Learn how you can use CU work on your neighborhood walks, when passing by other dogs, and during playtime with other dogs-all while practicing outdoors! This workshop is appropriate for all dog-friendly dogs who have completed our Control Unleashed or Total Control Unleashed Class.  Dogs who may be uncomfortable with unfamiliar dogs possibly approching them should check out our Outdoor Scrappers Workshop.

Leave Your Leash at The Door!  TCU Workshop
This workshop is the ultimate test for your CU skills!  The entire workshop, starting from the moment you enter the classroom area, will be held OFF-LEASH!  Use different CU games to keep your dog from becoming distracted and straying away from you, even as different groups are moving and playing right in front of your dog! This workshop is appropriate for all dog-friendly dogs who have completed our Control Unleashed or Total Control Unleashed Class.

Dogs from 6 months to adult, copy of vaccination records. Workshops meet one time.
Cost: $30

Because this class will include off-leash work, we ask that children coming to class be over the age of 14.

WORKSHOPS

Do you have the basics down but would like to refine just one or two things?  Our workshops are perfect for you!

Heel Workshop
Does your dog tend to pull you around on walks? Is your dog highly distracted while on-leash? Are you working on teaching your dog a formal "heel"? The Heel Workshop is perfect for you! In this workshop, we'll discuss lots of tips and exercises that will help teach your dog to walk nicely at your side. Plenty of practicing time will be provided!

Recall Workshop
Does it seem like your dog has "selective hearing" sometimes? The Recall Workshop is an excellent opportunity to work on perfecting your dog's "Come" response and ability to block out distractions! This workshop is a great training option for anyone who has difficulty with getting their dog to come to them when called. We'll discuss tips for training a reliable recall, and we'll also practice calling the dogs while many different distractions are present (Calling your dog away from treats! Calling them toward you when a fun toy is in their reach!)

Off/Greetings Workshop
This workshop is really great for dogs who tend to jump up on you or anyone else! Even though it may seem like a happy, friendly greeting ("I'm just so excited to see you!") jumping up on people is actually quite a pushy behavior, and can pose a safety concern in certain situations (when Grandma visits, etc.) In this workshop, we'll discuss how to teach your dog to learn to greet others politely, and to keep "four on the floor" in many different situations.

Tricks and Games Workshop
Have you been looking for a fun new activity to do with your dog? Why not try teaching them a few new tricks? In this workshop, we'll practice a bunch of different tricks (for example: Crawl, Wave, jump through hoops, etc) that will keep your dog's mind and body active!

Dogs from 6 months to adult, copy of vaccination records. Each workshop meets just one time and is approx. 45 minutes long. Only $20
