WE will not have puppy social hour on Saturday November 26th, Saturday December 24th, and Saturday December 31st. Happy Holidays!

We are bringing back our very popular Puppy Playgroups in a new and improved way! Bring your puppy and come hang out with us every Saturday from 10am to 11am! You and your puppy will fill the hour with learning about appropriate play, teaching your puppy various enrichment games, and of course leaving with a tuckered out pup!

Puppy Social Hour is for puppies 8 weeks to 6 months of age that are up to date on their vaccines.

Puppy Social Hour is $5 for puppies that reserve a spot online or over the phone no later than that Friday at noon. Drop-ins are welcome and are $7 for the hour.

  • Get the chance to talk to other doggy owners that have been sharing the same experiences
  • Only $5.00 for the full hour if you reserve a spot ahead of time- and $7 for drop-ins!

The key to having a well-socialized adult dog is to first have a well-socialized puppy! Puppies are not born knowing how to play with other dogs. They need to experience large dogs, small dogs, dogs that play rough, dogs that play gently. If your puppy is only exposed to playing with adult dogs, he will learn that he can bite harder when he plays. Then when he grows up to be an adult dog himself, he will still have a hard bite. Unfortunately, that can cause problems with other dogs and make other dogs perceive him as being a bully.  Proper socialization as a young puppy can help prevent many problems as the puppy develops into an adult.

Dog Parks can be a great energy outlet for your older pup, but they are not the best place to socialize your young puppy.  First, you cannot guarantee that each dog that your puppy comes into contact with will have been properly vaccinated.  Puppies are building their immunities at this young age and even exposure to an area that an ill dog (or even a carrier dog) has been can be detrimental to a puppy.  At our Puppy Social Hour (and daycare), we check that each dog is up to date on his or her vaccinations. We will send home dogs that we suspect are ill and we clean/sanitize daily.  At Dog Parks you also run the risk of running into adult dogs that are not friendly towards puppies. The last thing you want to happen at this critical stage of learning is for your pup to have a traumatic experience with an under socialized dog! This is why it is not safe to take your little puppy to the off-leash dog parks until they are older and have had proper socialization and positive exposure to many dogs.  That way, they already have appropriate greeting/playing skills and will not learn bad habits from older dogs.

But Puppy Social Hour is much more than just socializing with other puppies! Just as important—if not more—is making sure your puppy is properly socialized to LOTS of people! Men, children, women, tall, short, people in funny hats, etc.! Not only will your puppy get plenty of play time, but they will also meet and be handled by lots of new people during off leash play and while your puppy is working in our various enrichment stations. Daycare is a great way to socialize your puppy with other puppies and appropriate adult dogs.  Puppy Social Hour provides an additional way to not only meet additional puppies but to meet all new people.  Because owners stay with their puppies during playgroups, your puppy will be exposed to different men, women, and children each week.  Many people do a great job with dog-dog socialization but forget about introducing their puppies to various people.  These puppies often develop problems with people as they grow and develop.  Playgroups at The Dog Den provide you with a safe and structured place to help your puppy to grow into a well-adjusted and social dog with both dogs and people.

You can also use this time to get advice on your puppy issues from a professional dog trainer (nipping, housetraining, crate training, nail clipping, etc.).

Bring your puppy to our Puppy Social Hour for safe, supervised socialization. Here, they will learn to play appropriately, learn bite inhibition, proper dog-dog and dog-people greeting skills - and come home nice and tired!

Cost: $5.00 per puppy if your spot is reserved that Friday before by noon, Drop-ins $7

Proof of vaccinations required for first playgroup visit, please arrive no later than 9:45an on your first day for orientation!

Playgroups are for the parents to enjoy with their pups, this is not a drop off visit. Pre-registration is not required, but encouraged! The Dog Den reserves the right to dismiss a dog for aggression and suggest alternate training such as private lessons.
